Anna Butterfield, IIDA, NCIDQ

In her 10+ years as an interior designer, Anna has developed a wide breadth of design experience spanning across workplace, academic and retail specialties. Finding her passion in creating beautiful and highly functional workplace environments, she excels at making her clients feel valued, understood and well-served. Her knack for combining design proficiency with excellent organization and time-management skills has led Anna to become a trusted member of many project teams. A valued coach and mentor to junior staff, Anna is making an elevated firm-wide contribution through her work with both the Leadership Development Group and the Social Responsibility Team.
After receiving a degree in Art History from the University of Virginia, Anna came to Boston in 2004 to complete her Masters of Interior Design at the Boston Architectural College. A committed city-dweller, she can often be found running after her toddler, Ellis, in one of the many restaurants or museums in the city.

As a Senior Architectural Designer, Anna possesses a wide range of knowledge across all phases of design. Her creative thinking, paired with a detail-oriented design approach, ensure project excellence. She excels at leading teams through stimulating, fast-paced design charrettes, solving challenging design problems in an effective manner and building client relationships. Anna has worked with some of the top brands and companies across the retail industry from comprehensive strategic planning to prototype design to implementation on experiential, retail, and workplace project types. Her energy and passion for design drive the bar higher and stimulate growth at the firm.
In 2017, Anna took a leap of faith by establishing the firm’s first remote location. She is excited to represent Bergmeyer on the West Coast and to seek new client opportunities. Anna holds a Master in Architecture from Boston Architectural College and a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from University of Maryland. She is currently a member of the AIA and Green Team at Bergmeyer. Anna lives and works in Manhattan Beach, California, and enjoys travel, skiing and backpacking.
Krista Easterly, IIDA, LEED AP ID+C, WELL AP
Associate, Senior Interior Designer
A focused, self-motivated and self-directed interior designer, Krista develops practical, as well as beautiful, design solutions, well-considered details and material palettes. Working with academic and workplace clients, she excels at collaborating, using the latest design and visualization tools to develop meaningful spaces. Krista ensures that stakeholders’ goals and needs are met throughout each stage of design to make sure each project is a true success. As a member of Bergmeyer’s Practice Committee, Krista pushes to Bergmeyer’s interdisciplinary practice by helping to create standards, developing educational opportunities, advancing our collaborative culture, and establishing firm-wide quality control processes.
Within the firm, she has been a core member of the Events Committee, #WhoKnows Knowledge Community and Materials Library Team, and has led the firm in several internal practice-based training sessions. Krista has been an enthusiastic participant of the IIDA New England Fashion Show for nearly 10 years and will be taking the helm for the next 2 years as one of the event’s co-chairs. An advocate for advancing human health and wellness in buildings and communities, Krista is Bergmeyer’s first designer to a become a WELL Accredited Professional.
Krista has lived in Massachusetts her entire life except for the 4 years she spent in Vermont attending UVM for her undergrad. She completed her Master’s Degree in Interior Design from the New England School of Art and Design at Suffolk University. She enjoys cooking up big meals, taking on a new baking challenge, catching a spin class and spending time with her husband, Adam, and their rescue pit-bull, Theo.
Matt Ryberg
Senior Architectural Designer
Matt effectively guides project planning and identifies client needs. He is a thoughtful advocate for both internal and external teams, and is an indispensable partner to the execution of projects from start to finish. He directs and oversees a wide range of projects, from one-off boutiques to a national roll-out program in the retail sector. His organization, attention to detail, and patience has all been highlighted with the numerous work he has done in commercial and retail roll-out work across the country.
Matt is also a client champion. His ability to anticipate needs and the inevitable twists and turns of any project, has proved him to be a consistent and thoughtful project leader.
A graduate of both Wentworth Institute of Technology and the University at Buffalo, Matt maintains the precarious sport balance of having family from Massachusetts and New York state. He lives in Natick with his wife, two rabbits, fish, and a small collection of lawn gnomes.
Mike Finch, AIA
Senior Architect
For more than ten years, Mike’s architectural career has spanned residential, commercial, and retail design, where he has applied his technical expertise and attention to detail to his projects. Mike seamlessly coordinates all project phases, milestones, and deliverables; mentors, coaches, and advises staff; and improves his teams’ results by fearlessly generating, encouraging, and supporting brave new ideas and approaches.
Mike’s focus at Bergmeyer so far has been in retail, primarily leading project teams working with a large financial institution on retail and corporate workplace locations – both new construction and renovations – as well as standards and prototype development.
When Mike isn’t at work, he’s most likely out camping and backpacking. He’s been section-hiking the Appalachian Trail and is currently over 400 miles in, hiking much of the Northeast. Mike attended the New York Institute of Technology, where he received both his Bachelor of Architecture and his Master of Architecture in Urban and Regional Design. He is a member of the AIA and the BSA.
Pat Carroll, IIDA, NCIDQ, LEED AP
Design Practice Leader
With over 20 years of interior design project management experience, Pat is Bergmeyer’s primary point of contact for all of her projects, namely in workplace and housing markets. She is a Project Manager's Project Manager - there has never been a budget or a schedule that she couldn't meet. Pat works collaboratively with her teams and empowers others by sharing responsibility while retaining overall accountability for a project’s success. She effectively balances design exploration, project schedules and budgets by carefully evaluating and prioritizing project needs.
Originally from Connecticut, Pat is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelors in Finance. She moved to Boston in 1998 after receiving a BA in Interior Design from the American College for the Applied Arts in Atlanta. Pat lives on the South Shore with her Golden Retriever, Brody. When not watching the world go by from her deck in Houghs Neck, she can be found running all over Boston.
Zach Smith, AIA
Associate
As a Senior Architect and Program Lead, Zach brings an unparalleled understanding of design, business, and organizational goals to all of his work with Bergmeyer’s commercial Clients. Recently, working with many new-to-market and emergent restaurant concepts, Zach’s approach to problem solving through proactive design solutions has realized the creative visions of both chef-owned and corporate restaurant concepts. His ability to widen and narrow his focus with the scope of each project, allows him to tailor Bergmeyer’s services with exemplary effectiveness. Zach’s ongoing relationships in the market prove out how successful he is as a collaborator, designer, and strategic counsel.
Within the firm, Zach is a natural leader, teacher, and multi-talented practitioner. He works closely in concert with his teams – developing a strong rapport internally which then carries over to his Client work. His commitment to the growth of his colleagues and peers truly shines through when people and projects arrive at their most challenging moments.
Zach is a long time resident of New Hampshire. He graduated with his Master’s Degree in Architecture from the University of Massachusetts and is a licensed Architect and NCARB certificate holder. In addition to his work at Bergmeyer, Zach currently sits on the Retail and Entertainment AG Board for the American Institute of Architecture.
Scott Walker, LEED AP
Senior Architectural Designer
With over a dozen years at Bergmeyer, Scott’s effective project management skill set has allowed him to lead diverse project types including complicated campus projects, prototypical retail stores, to enriched consumer environment projects. He easily communicates the intricacies of the project process with the client, consultants and construction team from design through construction administration. He takes pride at deftly applying his technical detailing expertise and wealth of BIM production tools; formulating it all into integrate cohesive and creative design solutions. He actively participates in Bergmeyer’s GREEN Team leading the firm in achieving our AIA 2030 Commitment Sustainability Action Plan.
Originally from Poland, OH, Scott received his BA in Geology from The College of Wooster. After several years of traveling internationally for a management consulting company, he followed his life-long wish to practice architecture. After moving to Boston from Chicago, he studied at the Boston Architectural College and then began his career with Bergmeyer.
Jen Shiminsky, AIA, LEED AP
Senior Associate
Since joining Bergmeyer in 2004, Jen has worked on a variety of project types, ranging from a 2,500 sf historic firehouse renovation to a 45,000 sf student center. In that time, she has proven herself to be a vital member of the Bergmeyer higher education team, and has served critical roles in many of our dining hall and dormitory projects on campuses across Massachusetts.
Jen can assess any situation quickly, identify potential successful outcomes, and develop a plan of attack, always with a focus on how what we do enhances the quality of the student experience. Understanding that design excellence is measured in the execution of design ideas in the built world, Jen has spent much of her career on project jobsites. She has guided and supported construction and client teams through the many challenges to the integrity of design ideas that accompany any construction project. Jen is a highly effective and experienced leader of multi-disciplinary consultant teams for projects with challenging parameters and complexity. Her organization skills, critical thinking capabilities, and proficiency in multiple design tools make her an asset to whatever team she is working with.
Born and raised in New England, Jen moved to New Orleans to attend Tulane University, where she received her Master of Architecture Degree. After 8 years of living down south, Jen missed her family (and the seasons!) and relocated to Boston's North End, before finally settling in Arlington with her husband and two children.
