What motivated you to become a designer (or current role?)?
Honestly, HGTV. I developed an eye for design and aesthetics at an early age, but that TV channel opened my eyes to design as a career and it exploded from there.
When you are retired and look back on your life, what is the biggest accomplishment you hope to achieve?
In my career I’d like to have a project, or a few, where I was able to improve the lives of the occupants in the space. As designers we create beautiful spaces, but in addition to that our goal is to create functional and healthy spaces that have a positive influence on the end user. I hope that I’m able to do that throughout my career.
If you had to pick one word that best represents Bergmeyer's culture, what would it be, and why?
DIFFERENT. This is the first office I’ve worked in that values it’s employees this much and that creates a positive environment that truly allows for creative flow and self-expression. It’s surprisingly hard to find! (this also sort of answers the previous question)
What would you be doing if you were not working in this industry?
Hmm….that’s a tough question. I’ve always wanted to be in this industry! Why would I want to do something different than a job that allows me to be creative every day?!
What are you reading?
I’m currently reading No Man’s Land by David Baldacci. It’s a murder mystery (my fav). I typically read James Patterson’s books but I’m trying to change it up this month.
If you were to get a new degree or certification, what would it be?
Behavioral Psychology or Psychology of Place. All of my electives in college revolved around these topics. I would love to study how interior design influences our brains and behavior!
In a parallel universe, what is your profession?
Psychologist or murder investigator! Are you starting to see a trend yet??
What are your top three travel destinations?
Paris, Berlin, Disney World (original location, of course)
What’s your beverage of choice?
Non-alcoholic is tea, 100%. But for alcohol it’s too hard to pick just one…my top three are Pinot Noir, Old Fashioned, and Pain Killers (if you’ve never had one of these, you’re missing out)
What’s the best live music show you’ve seen?
It would have to be Coldplay – they put on an amazing show! It feels less like a concert and more like a theatrical performance. I wish I could see them live every year!
Where do you go for a weekend getaway?
Realistically, somewhere in New England on a beach or with a view of the water. In my dream world, I’d be on a beach in Nice, France. I’ve never been but it looks incredible!
