What motivated you to become a designer?
I grew up around design with my dad being an architect and industrial designer. I have always been drawn to the arts and design and found myself wanting to pursue interior design from an elective course called “career decisions” back in middle school. I took an aptitude test to define a list of possible careers I may be interested in, and low and behold, interior designer was #1 on my list. I further delved into research as a part of the assignment and decided at 13 years old this was my career. I went on to set goals to study interior design at Appalachian State University and then move to a big city in that class and I did just that.
If you had to pick one word that best represents Bergmeyer's culture, what would it be, and why?
Inviting. When I first visited Bergmeyer, I instantly felt a friendly atmosphere. I remember specifically when I visited for the day as a part of Bergmeyer’s Scholarship through Pave, the people that took me out to lunch made me realize I wanted to apply here. Not only did Bergmeyer have the type of work and job I was looking for, it ultimately came down to the people that made me want to pack my bags and move from North Carolina to Boston. Funny enough, those same people are my close friends today. Moving here has been the best decision I have ever done.
What would you be doing if you were not working in this industry?
I would be a travel photographer. Traveling and learning from cultures/people is truly my passion. I love taking and editing pictures as a hobby of mine - capturing a moment in life is priceless.
Where do you feel most at home?
In a small beach town called Oak Island in North Carolina. I grew up going there every summer, I cannot imagine my childhood without it. But honestly, anywhere in NC feels like home.
What’s the most important part of your morning routine?
A nice hot cup of coffee with 2 hazelnut creamers.
In a parallel universe, what is your profession?
Easy, an international landscape photographer. Who wouldn’t want to travel all over the world for a living!?
Who inspires you?
Hands down, my parents! Their selflessness, work ethic, and courage have always been my greatest examples of what to live by. They inspire me to be the best version of myself.
What's your Kryptonite?
French fries & ice cream, or both of them together (don't knock it until you try it)
What's your favorite TV show right now?
It will always be The Office, you can never watch it too many times. We should all aspire to have the same level of enthusiasm as Stan on National Pretzel Day.
What do you listen to while working?
Anything by Drake! Thank me Later is my favorite album - it’s full of some classics
